Unicorn children love to play and have fun in the clouds, living dreamy days. They love colorful things, including their clothes and the environment around them. They paint beautifully colored rainbows for all to enjoy. They have many friends and love to play with toys and games. Dinosaurs live on dry land, and they love to play games and ride bikes with their friends. Because they can run really fast, they often have races, challenging each other. When it rains, they stay indoors with their families, playing and watching television. The children’s book, The Difference Between a Unicorn and a Dinosaur, has an important message. Author Lindsey Coker points out the differences and the similarities between these two groups of children; for example, the idea that although unicorns are stylish and love colors, dinosaurs can also love these things, and it’s okay to do so.
This vital message for children is taught most delightfully. By highlighting each group’s positive, fun-filled characteristics, the author helps children recognize the goodness within each person. And what is perceived as different may not really be different after all! This message is further relayed through the beautiful illustrations by Tanya Maneki. Each group portrays lives of playfulness and joy. Parents will be able to reinforce the inherent message in this story. Although other people may seem different to us, there are many more similarities. Author Lindsey Coker has crafted a memorable children’s book titled The Difference Between a Unicorn and a Dinosaur. An excellent book for a child’s library!
