Author Biography

Having devoted 16 years of my active career in English teaching and study abroad counselling, I came across hundreds of students who needed that extra mental support, boosting and encouragement.I have always believed in being a friend and confidante for my students or friends and tried to reassure them or show a little light off my humble soul. The Empty Handed Altruist is a short story that reinforces the power of giving when you have nothing in terms of riches but a full, kind and magnanimous heart. Manas, the protagonist , is an elder brother , a street dweller, who has a very rough ,abusive childhood but makes sure he creates a life for his younger brother amidst all that vulnerable and challenging environment. The story is a beautiful culmination of true kindness and resolve to carve a life out of filth and provides a positive light to everyone who might be stuck at the end of various hideous tunnels. If Manas and Manan can be happy despite all the tormentations that life threw on them, the ever surviving spirit of mankind is what shines . As a writer ,what I want to reinstate through this book is that ,there is endless power in genuine kindness and giving and this boy was a true empty handed altruist .So,why can't we be more benevolent and altruistic when so many of us are priviledged but don't give.

A story of selflessness and devotion is always touching, but it is even more extraordinary when the protagonists are two brothers. Manas is the eldest and hopes that Manan, the younger brother, will have a wonderful life. Born and raised in a family that cannot provide for them, there are very few hopes that Manas's desire will be fulfilled. But life is not always cruel to those who deserve something more, and the possibility that Manan has a better future becomes more and more concrete. Will the older brother be able to see his greatest wish fulfilled? The reader will find it out by reading Dr. Jyuthica Laghate's magnificent book, The Empty Handed Altruist.

The Empty Handed Altruist by Dr. Jyuthica Laghate tells a special story. Too often, we tend to forget about generous feelings like altruism and kindness, so we have to be grateful to Laghate for reminding us of their value. However, what makes the story of Manas and Manan a precious one is the example the older brother sets. He has generous feelings despite a life spent in poverty and abuse. I believe that The Empty Handed Altruist is more than a story of good feelings. If Manas was able to be selfless in such dramatic circumstances, it should be easy for us to remind ourselves to follow his example and have the same regard for others. The Empty Handed Altruist is a very short book, and therefore you can read it quickly. However, its message is intense and resonates for a long time in the reader's mind, as only the best books do.
