It is an unfortunate truth that we spend much of our lives trying to meet the expectations of others, including God--not because God asks that of us, but because the church teaches us that we must. The Pharisees did it in Jesus' day, and He spent Himself, in love, attempting to demonstrate how we are to live free of that kind of legalism. Steve McVey writes in his beautiful book, "The Grace Walk", that "Legalism insists that we 'do our part' by working up enough faith to believe His promises or by making promises to Him about how we'll do better and try harder, but grace tells us that He has done it all." McVey states that God's grace reveals a God who "doesn't love us because of how good we are," but, rather, "He loves us because of how good He is!" Throughout the book, the author attempts to guide the reader into finding true freedom through the concept of grace. "Remember this important truth," McVey writes. "Adam's sin did not change God; it only changed Adam." Nothing we can do will change how God feels about us. He is authentic, unconditional love.

If you question whether or not you are good enough, or whether God is disappointed in your performance, you will find the reassurance you need to believe in your worth in this uplifting and thought-provoking devotional. McVey encourages the reader to live free of the legalistic chains so easily imposed by the church, and embrace life with an open heart and mind. "This world is not a waiting room . . . it is the stage on which we participate in the expression of Divine Life . . ." You will feel a tremendous burden lifted as you walk through "The Grace Walk."
