The List by Tom Wallace is a fast-paced, thrilling read. It takes the reader on a journey of intrigue immersed in political and corporate greed. Detective Jack Dantzler's quest to solve the mystery behind his parent's deaths thrusts him into a world of international crime. Apollo Industries is a front for organized corruption, controlled by the super rich of international society. Their military training and a singular compulsion to follow orders are the only prerequisites for the steely combatants enlisted to annihilate anyone with first-hand knowledge of the activities in Asia and the treacherous dealings still occurring.
Cain is a loner. He never married; had not found the right person and therefore nothing distracted him from becoming the best at what he did. Some described him as a predator. His senses served him well over the years and he was a legend among other members of the band of assassins. In fact, with his honed abilities he became a one-man killing machine. Success in his business never eluded him. Failure was not in his vocabulary. He was, however, loyal, and he was determined to avenge the death of Johnny Dantzler no matter what it took or who he took down in the process.
This begins a powerfully presented story of political and corporate treachery. Some of the main characters are members of an elite group of assassins: each is recognized in the upper echelons of power by a pseudonym. This protects those who are manipulating dangerous information as well as the Apollo company which filters millions of dollars obtained from willing sources, whose purpose is to gain access to The List.
So, begins a tale of subterfuge as one unsuspecting detective seeks to solve the deaths of his parents. What he discovers places him in great danger but his determination to uncover the truth keeps the reader glued to each page - - as one deception leads to another.
The List by Tom Wallace is a heart-pounding read: it has graphic detail but it is perfectly balanced as the story of death, fear and reprisal unfolds. Not a book for the faint of heart.
