It could be common knowledge that a name – especially when uttered – immediately connects us with someone or something, but John Avery’s The Name Quest takes readers even deeper into the heart of building deep and meaningful relationships with God by penetrating the mystery of His multi-layered personality through an understanding of the different names by which He reveals Himself. This interesting, easy-to-read book explores the different names of God, offering explanations and valuable insights into God’s nature. Most interesting is the fact that it helps readers create the kind of spiritual atmosphere where a relationship with God takes root and deepens, and where God no longer remains a concept but gets closer to humanity by taking a name. In this light, John Avery offers keen insights into how God’s acts in human history reveal His identity, touching vividly on themes like the creation and the redemption, God’s justice and mercy, his fidelity, and a lot, lot more. With the combination of Biblical references and real life stories, Avery creates a masterpiece that comes across as a guide, source of inspiration, and a spiritual path for readers.
I loved the book from concept to the beautiful writing to design. I was particularly arrested by the language of The Name Quest, which I found glorious; the book reads like drippings of honeycomb and the not-so-scholarly and the average reader will find it useful in their journey towards internalizing spiritual values and pursuing personal transformation. It is also interesting to see how John Avery makes the shift from merely knowing God’s names to deepening a relationship with Him. I highly recommend this book for seekers and dreamers, those desiring to connect intimately with God, and anyone who is committed to their personal and spiritual growth. It will certainly be the best companion for all those who are still looking for their spiritual expression.
