The Only Heir by Mary H. Collins is a romantic tale about Kimberly and her romance with Michael, who deserts after a night in her bed. She finds herself pregnant with Michael's child. Her parents abandon her because of the bad name she caused to the family; Michael's family term her to be an unfit mother and they take her son away.
The story begins with love and romance, how Kimberly meets Michael and realizes that he is the ideal man for her. The initial chapters revolve around their romance. The story takes a turn when Michael leaves Kimberly. The book has all the ingredients of a love story gone sour -- love, heartbreak, pregnancy, angry parents, etc. The story is fast paced. It is not a tearjerker, although Kimberly is left in the lurch by her lover. The conservative parents who abandon her during her crisis is something the reader can relate to.
The gamut of emotions that Kimberly experiences when she finds herself trapped, both when Michael leaves her and when her son is taken away by Michael's parents is handled competently by the author. The author has dramatized the whole story with a lot of emotions and tears. It shows the reader how one wrong choice can cause a great deal of misery. Will Kimberly be able to live her life without her son Michael? Will Kimberly ever find a new love and restart her life?
