Two doggies were relaxing in the living room when a paper plane flew into the room through an open window. One word was written on the paper plane: “HELP!” The dogs immediately leaped out of the windows and, in a flash, transformed into Captain Troublemaker and The Belly Rub Avenger. These heroes had to locate the distressed animal that needed their help. The duo first checked on Mother Deer and Fawn but found them lying peacefully under a tree. Then they checked on the prairie dogs, but the clan was having a fun time. They also checked on Mr. Badger, but he didn’t need any help; he liked doing things for himself. They checked in on a couple of other animals, but they were all fine. Who had sent the distress message? In The Return of Captain Troublemaker and The Belly Rub Avenger by Stacey Roberts, these two canine heroes set out to save the day, but will they find the assistance-seeker in time?
The Return of Captain Troublemaker and The Belly Rub Avenger is a fun, lighthearted picture book. The story is largely driven by the characters. Captain Troublemaker is playful and lives up to his name, while the Belly Rub Avenger—who loves belly rubs—is more focused and determined. The story portrays some values, such as teamwork and persistence. The pictures complemented the story, as they portrayed various scenes and actions. I especially loved the pictures because they were vibrant with colors and the characters' expressions. The vocabulary was simple and yet could be educational for young readers. I enjoyed The Return of Captain Troublemaker and The Belly Rub Avenger by Stacey Roberts and recommend it.
