Author Biography

T. A. Peters was born in Fort Worth, Texas and has lived in Florida for over twenty years. The author's interests in classical literature, language, dialect, philosophy, theology and local history resulted in the writing of the Green Flourish series of books including the novels Loggerhead and One Little Word featuring the diffident, atypical heroine Mary Fisher, and the prequel Green Flourish Pentalogy which presents an intimate portrait of Mary's ascendance as a character from her conception to maturity in five volumes.

Mary Fisher has led a hard life. Trying to eke out a living from the lowest rung of the social ladder in late 1800s Scotland is no cakewalk. Reminiscing on her torturous early life, she gives a vivid recollection of her experiences, the pain, the anger, and the rare compassion that made her grow up far too quickly.

T.A. Peters' The Sisters Find a New Home: The Green Flourish Pentalogy Part 1 is a coming of age story set in a time and place where a hard life forces children to become adults just to survive. I cannot even begin to comprehend the amount of scholarly research the author had to undertake just to get the historical setting right. Though it may be initially jarring, the focus on using the right words used during Mary's era adds more flavor to her rich story. Reading the dialogue and interplay between various characters has never been so interesting. The use of the first-person narrative is something that fits the concept of this novel. Seeing through Mary's eyes, reading her thoughts on how she views the world, and how she reacts to the travails she encounters gave much more emotional weight to the narrative.

An immersive, fascinating and educational read, The Sisters Find a New Home: The Green Flourish Pentalogy Part 1 is that rare novel that made my interest grow with each page I turned. This book exceeds the confines of its relatively narrow niche and can offer so much to the intrepid reader willing to step out of his or her literary comfort zone.

The Sisters Find a New Home: The Green Flourish Pentalogy Part 1 by T.A. Peters introduces us to a new kind of heroine. In the year 1936, a woman starts talking about her life because those holding her prisoner ask her to, and her life is not a normal one. Mary was born in 1878 and, from the moment of her birth, odd things happened around her and Mary just accepted them as the norm. Every move towards becoming an adult added something new and odd to her life. In the end, Mary decided the hardest part of dealing with all of it was knowing if she could trust someone, including herself. Start the journey with Mary in a small village in Scotland and watch how Mary and her sister have to find their way through financial ruin after their father passes away. It is only when they get a letter from a distant relative that they see a different path to take. This journey will take them to where the winds blow and they never expected to end up where they land.

This is listed as the first part in a five-part story and if this part is any indication then I can't wait for the rest. You can tell that T.A. Peters has put a lot of love into this story because it is both well written and entertaining. This is exactly the kind of book that you want to curl up and spend time with. The characters begin to feel like friends and you root for them. Mary is an extraordinary woman and I can't help but feel a connection with her. I have had some odd things happen in my life too, granted not nearly as much as Mary has had, but still. She faces things with a strong sense of character and you have to admire that. If you would like to enjoy a wonderful book that is beautifully written, this is one for you to sit down and envelop yourself in.

As circumstances would have it, Mary is being held captive in Europe during the year of 1936. At the request of her captors, she begins to tell the tale of her unusual, but exciting life. Born in a small fishing village in Scotland in 1878, Mary’s life was far from normal. Right from the beginning she was treated differently from her elder sister because of her outward appearance. Neighbors give her awful glances, or none at all; children and teachers alike bully her. But through it all, she never thought it strange or wrong, and never asked why it was happening. She always thought it was normal. With the local fishing village struggling and both parents gone, the sisters feel very blessed when a relative seems to rescue them from their financial burdens - they receive a letter and an invitation to leave their home. But the journey across the ocean turns out to be more different than either one of the young women could ever have imagined.

The Sisters Find a New Home: The Green Flourish Pentalogy Part 1 is the first of a 7-book series written by T.A. Peters. The author writes the story in the first person narrative of the main character, Mary, allowing readers to gain a more personal perspective on the story. The character and plot development are astonishing, being very detailed and realistic; it is as if you, the reader, are the character and in the scene you are reading about. The book, however, has a very distinct language and dialect that would be similar to that of Scotland and England during the 19th century. As a reader of many historical non fiction and historical fiction books pertaining to relatively the same language and dialect, I had no problem reading the text. But someone unfamiliar with 19th century Britain English language might have a rough time understanding what they are reading. Overall, a lovely and exciting story. I can’t wait to read more from this author and series.
