Najia’s father is a wealthy sheik with very stern principles regarding women. Her mother is a modern American woman, also wealthy. Najia’s father kidnaps her when she’s in her teens and sets a jinni on her, a paranormal power that both frightens and controls her. So, when Najia’s grandmother’s best friend, Blythe, assists in re-kidnapping Najia and returning her to her mother, things start to really heat up in both the paranormal realm and the real world. Blythe is a bit of a psychic. She helps people rid themselves of these paranormal spirits. Only this time, there’s a murder involved and there’s danger in the mix.
Gloria Lesher’s cozy mystery, The Skinny on the Jinni: A Paranormal Cozy mystery (Paranormal Case Files #1), is a blend of adventure, murder, mayhem, and the unexplained from other realms. Told in the first-person narrative from Blythe’s point of view, it’s obvious that Blythe is the main character in this mystery. Much like Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote, Blythe leaves no stone unturned and manages to be involved in every part of resolving the case. It’s tricky trying to solve a murder with paranormal elements interfering and causing mayhem, but Blythe has her ways and this intense plot pulls the reader into the action, wanting to help out at every turn. As well as the adventure and thrill of the hunt (and the haunt), there are interesting characters and strong bonds of friendship that interweave through the plot. This story will have you laughing, crying, and perhaps even a little frightened at times, but you won’t want to miss a minute of the adventure.
