The Treasure of Peril Island: An Adventure for Teens is a good, old-fashioned swashbuckling tale. Jack is somewhat down on his luck. He has just decided to apply to be a steward again when he crosses paths with an unusual fellow who claims to be the pirate Black Juan Gaskara. The trouble is, that would make Black Juan over 100 years old. Gaskara shares the details of his last voyage and a treasure that is waiting on Peril Island. Of course, the crew he left behind and their descendants want a piece of this treasure too. Jack and his former shipmate Hector embark on a harrowing journey to Peril Island to find out whether Black Juan’s tale is true.
C. W. James has written an adventurous tale full of mystery, action, and intrigue. The Treasure of Peril Island will be enjoyed by anyone who loves the sea and pirate stories. I really enjoyed the twists and turns that the plot takes and the camaraderie between Jack and Hector. James’s descriptions were so vivid that I was fully immersed in the story. Anyone who enjoys puzzles will also love the fact that a cryptogram needs to be solved to find the island and the treasure. James has even found a way to incorporate some of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Fans of Treasure Island and Jack Sparrow will enjoy The Treasure of Peril Island. All those who long to find the hidden treasure will enjoy joining Jack and Hector as they search for Black Juan’s loot. The Treasure of Peril Island is a rollicking good yarn!
