This is Our Home: A Sustainability Story to Help You Start Your Own Eco-Friendly Journey by Trent Romer is a combined memoir and environmental study. It gives practical ideas to anyone who wants to become an environmentalist or just be a little more eco-friendly. It describes what a Superfund site is and which areas qualify, such as Nassau Lake. The author uses examples from both past and present to explain how chemicals came to be in the lake. He includes interviews with people in his community and from other Superfund sites to show how much work is needed for them to be cleaned up. He also quotes many other resources to support his viewpoint.
I thought that This is Our Home by Trent Romer was a real eye-opener. I loved his boat analogy as it made a lot of sense. The termite comparison was creepy but quite effective in explaining his point. I loved the detail that was provided. I also enjoyed the way that the author uses his journey to explain things such as why he wrote the book, as it made him more credible. I loved the interviews, especially the ones relating to other Superfund sites. They were highly informative. My new favorite holiday is Almsgiving. The fact that Romer is president of a plastic grocery bag manufacturing company gives me so much hope. It is so good to know that not all companies like that are bad. If you are into the #saveearth movement, or just curious to find out how one person can help, this is a definite must-read.
