Unborn: Dark World by Eva Barber is a science fiction thriller centered on Olesya Solensky, an unborn woman. After Olesya was found by her foster parents in a forest in Russia, they moved to the United States, where she was raised and became a physicist. Her quiet life as a physicist is shattered when her colleague, Sara, goes missing after the discovery of the true nature of dark matter. This discovery triggers a hidden war against Zoe and her companions, who also receive power from the dark matter, believing they are destined to use dark matter power to change the world. Olesya's quest for truth is met with a discovery that she's an unborn creature, and she has a brother, Alexander, who wasn't as lucky as her. Amidst the chaos, Olesya must uncover the secret of her own origins, compelling her to make choices that will not only determine the fate of her and her family but also that of humanity itself.
I was really captivated by how the author skillfully blends the scientific concept of dark matter into a personal story about identity, sacrifice, and destiny. The relationship between Olesya and her brother, Alexander, provides a strong emotional anchor, despite their contrast with political intrigue and the concept of immortality. The characters were incredibly well-developed and realistic, which made me feel connected to their struggles and sacrifices. Eva Barber has a unique writing style, which uses descriptive language that makes the world of the Unborn feel both realistic and familiar. Unborn explored the themes of identity and destiny. The pace flowed seamlessly, pulling me through the plot with every turn of the page. The novel has complex philosophical depths and dimensions. I recommend Unborn to readers interested in high-stakes supernatural thrillers.
