When Legends Rise: Legends of Light #1 by Daphne Self details the transformation of Juliet 7-A, the top genetically enhanced assassin working for the Global Federated Territories. That is, until an ambush wounded him severely, and the organization that had created him slated him for destruction. His only hope is a former teammate in hiding, now working for the Christian Coalition they had been sent to destroy. Rescued by those he’d tried to erase, hunted mercilessly by those he’d led, Jules must decide if he’s willing to follow these radicals and the God they serve, a decision that may ultimately cost him everything.
When Legends Rise by Daphne Self is a fast-action sci-fi thriller set in Earth's early space colonization years. Though principally a sci-fi thriller, it’s also heavily dystopian, as the allied government of the system controls much of life, and has outlawed the Bible as a dangerous book, and Christians as well. The struggles the Christians have with trust and faith under fire are tangible. The raw emotions of the main character are vibrant and compelling as he is repeatedly betrayed by those he trusted, and sacrificially assisted by those he was commissioned to kill. Several passages had me crying. Forgiveness, redemption, sacrifice, and transformation are strong threads in this futuristic tapestry of faith in the crucible. Excellent dialogue offsets non-stop action as the main character struggles to protect his new friends from annihilation. Fantastic action, top-notch world-building, high stakes and a bit of spice make for an immersive tale perfect for lovers of Christian science fiction or just an excellent futuristic story of redemption.
