Attorney Daniel Mendoza is on vacation in Puerto Rico at the Regal Isabela resort in Where Darkness Resides: Daniel Mendoza Thrillers Series Book 4 by Daniel Maldonado. He is joined there by Pamela Williams, the private investigator that he works with on many of his cases. Daniel and Pamela are enjoying some quiet time when there is a loud commotion coming from the adjoining room. When they check out the room the following morning, it is empty with no sign of any guest having been there. Daniel and Pamela suspect that there was a kidnapping and immediately begin investigating. The case takes them in several different directions and Daniel is also abducted. Meanwhile at home in Arizona, Daniel’s associates are trying a case concerning an accident involving a car and a bus. All the action comes together to bring finality.

Where Darkness Resides is the perfect read for all legal mystery fans. There is excitement, suspense, court cases, and a little romance. The book did a great job of combining a mystery in Puerto Rico with a trial in Arizona and moving from one to the other at the perfect pace. The plot is well developed by Daniel Maldonado with a lot of attention to detail. I have not yet read the earlier books in the series but this is a stand-alone story. Daniel and Pamela were strong and likable figures and I was pulled into the story, finding it impossible not to share in their adventures throughout the book. This is a must-read for all mystery and courtroom drama fans.
