Witchfyre and Faerysong by Maighread MacKay is a fantasy romance. All Everloure "Lori" McLeod wants is to master her witch powers and become the healer she was always meant to be. As the daughter of the High Priestess of Fairy Island, Lori comes from a long line of witches. But when she accidentally begins a romantic relationship with Jaden Beauchamp, one of the courtiers of the Fairy Queen Maeve, she ends up making a very vindictive enemy. Soon, Jaden is sent to Australia on a royal mission, and Lori becomes romantically involved with an inquisitive mortal named John Sinclair. She travels to Scotland and learns to be a healer under the guidance of The Crone. With the faeries and witches at each others' throats, it's up to Lori to use her powers for the greater good of both races.
Drawing from Scottish folklore, Maighread MacKay has written a fantastical yarn filled with romance, magic, and mystery. Anyone who loves stories featuring witches, faeries, or talking animals will have a blast reading this book. Witchfyre and Faerysong takes you on a magical adventure you won't want to end, immersing you in a richly built world full of lore, history, and magic. I loved the light-hearted tone of the narrative, as well as the history between the faeries and the witches. Additionally, the characters are so interesting. I was thoroughly invested in the love triangle between Lori, Jaden, and John and found Queen Maeve to be a formidable nemesis. MacKay's dialogue is witty and, at times, humorous, and it makes the character interactions all the more entertaining. If you're into fantasy romance stories, this book will be right up your alley!
