In Yiannis' Great Adventures Vol. 1, Ralph Belfiglio talks to children about interesting changes in life. In a small antique shop in the city of Athens, there is a beautiful hand-painted cabinet. Yiannis, a friendly mouse, lives there. He likes to walk around the shop and greet the other mice who live there. However, one day, a shipping label appears on the front of the cabinet where he lives, with the words 'New York' written in black letters. The next morning, he feels a tremor in his house; all his furniture is shaking, creating chaos. By the time the situation calms down, and he looks outside, he realizes he is in a moving truck. Now that he is far away from everything he knew, he must face a vast and unknown world.
Moving can be difficult for some children because it means leaving their comfort zone. That’s why this book will really help them. Yiannis is a mouse with an established lifestyle. Moving the cabinet is something unexpected for him, but although he misses his friends, he is willing to embark on new adventures in unknown places. Yiannis also shows youngsters how easy it is to make new friends. In addition, the illustrations are charming, full of details, and cozy settings. I also loved the way Ralph Belfiglio narrates the story because the clear descriptions help young readers understand how the characters feel. Yiannis' Great Adventures Vol. 1 reminds us that we can't always control what happens around us, but we can always take advantage of new experiences.
