In today's culture, medicine is essential for all human life. Any reader, especially children, will discover a lot about medicine and those that contributed to it in the book 12 Immigrants Who Made American Medicine Great by Meg Marquardt. The immigrants highlighted in this book reflect that despite who you are or where you came from, you're just as important as anyone else. Did you know that Gerty and Carl Cori (Czech Republic) discovered the process of how our bodies use energy? Or what about the artificial heart created by Domingo Santo Liotta (Argentina) whose first one kept the recipient alive for 64 hours? And they will discover that the birth control pill was created by Carl Djerassi (Austria) due to an understanding of how hormones change the body. In this book, there is so much to learn about these medical professionals.
