A Mortal Song by Megan Crewe is a stunning young adult fantasy novel about a girl named Sora. Sora has lived her whole life on Mount Fuji, believing she is a kami and heir to the kingdom. However, when Mount Fuji is attacked, she realizes that her life is a lie, and she's a human. The real kami heir, named Chiyo, is in Tokyo, and knows nothing of her roots or her abilities. Together with her guard, Takeo, Sora must find Chiyo, train her, and then find the three sacred treasures, so that they can bring down the ghost army, and take back their mountain. But as new human weaknesses emerge in Sora, will she be able to take down the ghosts?

I really enjoyed reading A Mortal Song by Megan Crewe. The book is extremely well written, and I loved how vivid the descriptions were. I really like how this book introduces a culture that the reader may not be aware of, but may want to find out more about. The story is filled with plot twists that will shock the reader, and make them wonder what will happen next. The book is very fast paced, and extremely intriguing. I was hooked by the first page, and I didn't want to put it down. The characters are all very likeable, because they are brave, selfless, and smart. I absolutely loved this book, and would read it again. I really like the inclusion of the romantic subplot. The story also has some funny parts as well as some cute romantic scenes. I would definitely recommend A Mortal Song to all readers.
