In 1996, Pres Maxson was 16, spending his summer vacation in Paris alongside his young sister, Liz, at their aunt and uncle's place. While roaming through Chinatown, an encounter with a street musician named Lucky Chain left a deep impression on Pres' young mind and heart. Thirty years later, now a musician and a writer, Pres found the inspiration to write a story about a man who could sing in 8 languages. Chinatown Troubadour follows Pres' search for the elusive street musician who helped start his music journey in childhood. After a year of scrolling through social media and contacting old CD sellers, Pres finally found the man he was looking for. He initiated contact with him through messages and discovered Lucky Chain was someone more than he first appeared to be.

Chinatown Troubadour is an inspirational true story about finding joy in following one's lifelong passion over the years. Pres Maxson recounts his journey to find and interview his childhood hero, who introduced him to the joys of performing music. Short, engaging, and lighthearted, this book will charm musicians and music fans alike. Lucky Chain is a fascinating person. It's clear why someone like him would leave an impression on a teenager with their passion and love for music that feels almost infectious. Pres also has a very personable writing style that makes it easy for the reader to relate to his experiences. I loved how Lucky continued to play music throughout the decades, even though he never quite achieved the stardom he dreamt of when he was younger. Recommended to all music lovers!
