From Grief to Acceptance: An Active Process for Healing While Honoring Our Loved Ones by Misty Proffitt-Thompson is an in-depth guide to help those who have lost a loved one navigate through the many layers of grief and begin the healing process. Each chapter is designed to walk the reader through their individual grieving journey at their own pace while providing various tools, support, and new perspectives on what many assume to be the correct or incorrect ways to grieve. The book makes it clear that everyone's grieving process is different; there is no right or wrong way to feel. Instead, From Grief to Acceptance shows you how to be mindful of your thoughts and feelings, what to do with them, how to honor yourself and your process, and ultimately come out on the other side stronger and more grateful than you ever thought you could be.

As far as books on loss and grieving go, From Grief to Acceptance by Misty Proffitt-Thompson is pure gold. I highly recommend this read to anyone going through loss. When my brother passed away suddenly in 2004, the first thing I did was buy and read every book I could find on grief. I had so many questions and was just so lost; this book would've been invaluable. Every chapter is fantastic and truly resonated with me like none I've read before. I loved that the author shared her own personal story and why she felt it so important to help others. There is so much in this book for everyone. The understanding that the soul goes on is such an important reminder to those who feel death is final and are in so much pain that they cannot grasp the spiritual side of themselves and their loved one.

Trusting, believing, and finding acceptance are just a few things that people need to be taught or reminded of in their most vulnerable times and encouraged to practice. This book is filled with great information and written with such firsthand knowledge and compassion. The reader is sure to take away a feeling of renewed hope, spiritual/emotional support, and the tools necessary to climb out of despair. I wish I could give this book ten stars. There is no better book out there in the world than one that has the power to turn someone's life around and heal an aching heart.

When Misty Proffitt-Thompson lost her only sister suddenly, she struggled to come to terms with her loss. The five steps of the grieving process according to the renowned Kubler Ross model was not something she could relate to. She believed that she was grieving incorrectly. Follow Misty's brutally honest account as she gives a refreshing new insight into the grieving process that will not only validate your emotions but also honor your loved ones without the overwhelming feelings of guilt in doing so. This unique perspective will shift your focus and understanding of loss. In From Grief to Acceptance by Misty Proffitt-Thompson, explore The Five Encouraging Phases of Grief which examine the stages of grief in a whole new way. They will not only help you unburden yourself of the self-defeating emotions of grief but will also empower you to overcome any negative life experience.

I wish I had had this amazing book to hand when I was going through the grieving process. Misty absolutely gets the emotions I experienced and I found myself nodding in agreement throughout this book. Yes, I also thought I was grieving 'the wrong way' but reading this insightful book has given me the validation of my emotions, giving me much peace and self-acceptance. There was one line that really resonated with me, 'Her destiny was hers, and I am only a witness to it,' because it gave such a clear understanding of life and death, which we all have to experience in our lives. Reading this book opens your mind to the bigger picture and is also a great blueprint to use in everyday life. I loved the section on how to connect to your higher self by raising your vibration, and how by becoming more spiritual we place the power within something more powerful and not the ego. I will certainly recommend anyone suffering from a loss of any kind to read this remarkable book, so they too can find peace, acceptance and the ability to let go of fear.

From Grief to Acceptance: An Active Process for Healing While Honoring Our Loved Ones by Misty Proffitt-Thompson is a self-help book that talks about grief and proposes a process that enables those who have been stricken by loss to move past the paralyzing feeling and the void it leaves in their hearts, transforming the experience into one of healing and personal growth. The author uses her experience of loss and the unique journey she has made since she lost her only sister twenty years ago to guide readers in discovering their unique way to mourn and to honor a loved one.

This book offers a fresh perspective on how we view life, loss, and death and empowers readers with tools they can use to transform their lives and reach deeper levels of love and acceptance. It has been hard for me to let go of my mom's passing and there have been moments that I have been stuck thinking I mightn't have honored her the way I ought to. This book gave me a reassuring message that there is far more than “the right” way when it comes to honoring the dead and embracing the pain in our heart. This book is a heart-to-heart conversation between the reader and the author, a conversation that is infused with love and compassion. From Grief to Acceptance: An Active Process for Healing While Honoring Our Loved Ones is simply written, but the simplicity of style doesn't undermine the profundity of thought and the timelessness of the message. A must-read for any grieving soul.
