God Ain't Done With Me Yet is Min Diamond Golson's memoir about the struggles and mistakes she's made along the way and her search for where she belongs. Having a father who was absent most of her childhood led Golson to seek love and acceptance in all the wrong places. Even after graduating from college and becoming a teacher, she still felt lost and unsure of her future. Her search for purpose led to difficult relationships, trauma, motherhood, and some choices she’s not proud of. During the darkest period of her life, Golson even turned to prostitution. But her love for her children and her grandmother's guidance were a steady source of strength. Sprinkled throughout are also her thoughts on how faith helped her move forward. At the end, the book includes a letter to her kids and journal prompts designed to encourage healing and reflection.
After finishing God Ain't Done With Me Yet by Min Diamond Golson, I felt too many emotions to narrow them down into one neat description. Before I even started reading, the cover grabbed my attention. The young woman there appears peaceful but has a hint of sadness in her expression. To me, the crown she wears symbolizes someone who has faced her struggles and come out stronger on the other side. Kelly Clarkson’s song, “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger,” would be a good anthem for her. My heart went out to the author for sharing some of the most painful moments of her life with honesty and vulnerability. The journal prompts at the end were a great addition that I’m sure will help others in similar situations. The letter to her children was sincere and moving. The writing is personal, direct, and easy to understand. Anyone looking for a faith-based memoir, a story of overcoming adversity, or even a coming-of-age transformation will want to pick this one up. As Dolly Parton said, "If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain." This woman’s tale carries a similar message of hope and perseverance, reminding readers that difficult chapters don't have to be the end of someone's story.
