Dean stayed with Pop Pop when his Mommy and Daddy went to work, and he was very happy when he was with Pop Pop. Pop Pop and Dean went for their Big Shopping. They called it Big Shopping when they went to the big stores and Little Shopping when they went to the grocery store. They went down several aisles searching for toys and Dean was sure they had lost their way. Pop Pop knew they were not lost - he wanted Dean to have a look at the fish in the fish tanks. After a few more aisles, they reached where the toy trains were kept. Pop Pop said Dean could buy one of the little trains and he would get him a big train set for birthday or Christmas. Once they reached Pop Pop's house, Dean played with his new train and watched Thomas and Friends on TV. Dean excitedly told his parents about his new train when they came to pick him up from Pop Pop's house and how they were trying to do the train whistles.
Grandman Dean Goes "Big Shopping" (Adventures with Pop Pop) by Warren Martin is an adorable story about Pop Pop and Dean, their adventures together while going shopping, and the enjoyable time they had together while on their Big Shopping day. Star Huddleston's illustrations are colorful and wonderful and they give the story a good pace and movement. It is a good story for parents and tutors to use for storytelling sessions at homes and classrooms and many children will be able to connect with the bonding and the fun time Dean and Pop Pop had together on their Big Shopping day.
