Since his dishonorable discharge from service, former British Army Officer Andrew Mackay has had trouble adjusting to civilian life. His existence had devolved into an unending loop of binge drinking, chain-smoking, gambling, and dodging menacing loan sharks in Camden, London. To his credit, his discharge was very circumstantial and undeserving, but that did not lessen his misery. After catching up with his old army friend, Edward Roper, over lunch, Mackay narrowly survives an assault by armed men after a package in Edward’s possession. Edward is not so lucky as he is shot dead. Before dying, Edward commits Mackay to a solemn promise, leaving him with a puzzle involving a club and a mystery woman. As Mackay tries to get answers and honor his word, he is sucked into a dangerous cat-and-mouse game between him, law enforcement authorities, MI5, and a radical Islamist cell. Can he outwit his pursuers long enough to discover what his friend was involved in? Find out in James Dunlop’s Half Made Up: An Andrew Mackay Thriller.
This white-knuckle page-turner will seize you from the first page and won’t let go until you have flipped from cover to cover. James Dunlop’s Half Made Up is a must-read for lovers of gripping, fast-paced conspiracy and espionage thrillers blended with high-octane action, high-stakes drama, political intrigue, and more. Weaving a web of mystery around an ingenious plot, Dunlop features an exciting cast. The storyline unfolds through succinct prose, with a first-person perspective, and witty, introspective commentary that highlights a distinct, seasoned, and tremendously talented narrative hand. The colorful and cinematic depictions of the scenes made me feel like I was watching a Hollywood action thriller starring Tom Hardy. The edge-of-the-seat suspense, compelling cliffhangers, and jaw-dropping plot twists hooked me. I enjoyed the sharp, character-driven conversations interwoven with dry humor and sarcasm. They gave depth to the cast’s conflicts, emotions, and traits. I loved this book. Dunlop is now my favorite author.
