Hidden Worlds by Kit Campbell is an enchanting fantasy that will thrill both young readers and the young at heart. Margery Phillips loves to write stories. When she gets bored during her math calculus lessons, she finds solace in her story-writing notebook. Walking home from school, Margery was surprised to discover The Spork Room on a familiar street. Margery was even more surprised when The Spork Room appeared to her everywhere, at school and home, but others could not see it. Inside The Spork Room, Margery discovered a magic door to the imaginary world of the story she was writing. She entered and met the characters from her story and embarked on an incredible adventure.
Hidden Worlds by Kit Campbell is an exciting and suspenseful fantasy. I was enthralled by Margery’s adventures and kept wondering if she was a great-granddaughter of Lewis Carroll’s Alice. But even if she is not related to Alice, Margery has now taken her place side-by-side with Alice in the hierarchy of my favorite fantasy characters. What I loved most in the story is the evolution of Margery from a cautious and lonely schoolgirl struggling with writer’s block to a confident and brave adventurer overcoming the perils of her quest and discovering friendship, inspiration, and ideas for her story. I highly recommend this tale to fans of adventure and fantasy, writers, and everyone who likes to write stories or wonders what it takes to do so.
