I Can Do What Daddy Can Do is a picture book for preschool children written by Kitty Arceneaux and illustrated by W. Smiley Isaac. Four-year-old Logan loves spending time with his dad every weekend. He is fascinated by his dad’s weekend routines and wants to learn how to make them his routines as well. When he sees his dad reading a newspaper, he’s curious and wants to learn how to read a newspaper. He works hard to learn the words and succeeds. Even though Logan is small, and his dad’s truck is very big, Logan wants to help his dad wash the truck. His dad gives him a sponge and shows him what to do. The father and son team then tackles mowing the lawn, painting mommy’s chairs, and Logan even learns how to tie his own shoelaces before they go to the park. Logan loves learning how to do what his dad does, and he feels good when he can do those things as well. When he sees his mom and dad praying, he wants to do that as well.
Kitty Arceneaux’s I Can Do What Daddy Can Do highlights the special connection dads and sons have, and the way kids want to be just like their dads or moms. The author focuses on both the chores dads frequently do as well as the recreational outlets many enjoy, and she demonstrates how including a child in those activities can have life-changing results. W. Smiley Isaac’s illustrations work perfectly with the story and help readers visualize what they are reading. I Can Do What Daddy Can Do is a grand selection for story time that offers caregivers the opportunity for young listeners to share what they like doing with their dads or moms. It’s highly recommended.
