Some of us find it very difficult to stand up in front of others and speak. Livy Lou has that problem; she’s very quiet and shy. In Sally Lou Loveman’s Livy Lou Lovely Loves to Speak, Livy Lou finds her voice and her courage, and she speaks up in many different public venues. She has a beautiful voice; all she had to do was be brave and speak up. It’s quite common for shy people like Livy Lou to lack confidence in their abilities to project themselves and their ideas. “When you do what you love, your voice becomes yours./ It’s the secret sauce behind most entrepreneurs.” All of us need to realize that we are a story; that’s our superpower, and we should always believe in ourselves.
Sally Lou Loveman’s picture book, Livy Lou Lovely Loves to Speak, is a lyrical treasure. What a wonderful use of alliteration in the title. The very lyrical rhyming story projects its message with care. It’s interesting how the author highlights the rhyming words in red and cursive writing. The plot follows Livy Lou’s journey from fear and shyness to the power of believing in herself and being able to speak out. The language is mostly simple, but there are some difficult words, like entrepreneur, that some readers might struggle to read, pronounce, and understand. The author carefully explains these words, so it’s a great learning tool for young readers to enrich their reading abilities. The illustrations by Srimali Bassani are bright, bold, and cheery, and add an exciting element to the wonderful plot. This is a feel-good story that will help young readers learn and develop their unique potential. Loved it!
