Mediocrity in America: A Point of View by Andrew Rodriguez is a slim but powerful book that explores one of the tragic realities that is killing the life of the American people, a trend called mediocrity. The moment I read this title, I thought I was gazing at a book that would offer answers to the glaring populist culture that is continually growing in the US, and how unlikely it would be for an informed and educated people to vote in a President who tweets ‘negative press covfefe’ in the wee hours of the morning. In more ways than one, Andrew Rodriguez shows how the soul of the American people is slowly being eroding by disinterest in education and in values that allow individuals to develop their skills and personality. It’s no wonder that many people follow the trend blindly, embrace the path that the media suggests without critical thinking. The question is: What happens when the number of mediocre citizens remains on the rise?
Andrew Rodriguez writes beautifully and he articulates on a wide variety of topics, demonstrating with powerful arguments how deeply mediocrity has eaten its way into the fabric of contemporary American culture. One gets the startling awareness that few, very few Americans are willing to take the road less travelled by. Readers will understand the blatant signs of mediocrity and how it affects the American culture. Mediocrity in America: A Point of View is logically presented with strong arguments and writing that is confident, proof that the author knows exactly what he is talking about. The social and cultural commentaries are thorough and striking. This book will raise awareness in readers of the standards they need to set for themselves and what defines quality life.
