Reviving the Commander is the first book in the Crowns Legacy series by Nadine C. Keels. This is a beautiful romance between two people who thought they would never find love again, but life had other plans for them. Opal wasn’t looking for love; she had made peace with the fact that she would remain a spinster for the rest of her life. So when she came across Staid, the Commander Exemplar, she knew she would have to hold her heart in check or it would betray her and rush to him. The Commander Exemplar is no ordinary man, he is a father and a widower and, most importantly, he is not looking for love. Even if he was, he wouldn’t be looking for it in Opal, but there is something that draws them to each other. There is a pull that they cannot deny. Will they give love a chance?
Reviving the Commander by Nadine C. Keels is a fast-paced unique romance that will show you different facets of love and affection that human beings are capable of at every age. Opal and Staid are two very different yet very similar people. They have an age difference, but that doesn’t really matter because their minds and souls synched beautifully. You don’t read many romances that have middle-aged characters as the protagonists. Love has lost its meaning in the mainstream genre and the author has done an incredible job at reviving it in all its glory. Opal is a very likable character, but it was Staid who made the story entertaining for me. He is charming, understanding and he has a heart as big as the world. The universe building is convincing and exceptionally well-crafted. The author has done a great job of writing a delightful story with the focus on love itself. Brilliant and beautiful in every way.
