Kitty Klepaki is originally from Saint Augustine, Florida, but after her parents and two college age brothers, Andrew and Arnold, are lost at sea in her father's 49 foot ketch, Kitty is traumatized and goes on the run. She ends up as a card dealer at the Lucky Star in Winnemucca, Nevada, which is about 160 miles north of Reno. At age 30, Kitty is still all woman and is attracted to handsome Yakima Indian, Gillis Black. But someone is stalking Kitty and writes creepy messages on her car, sending her unwanted deliveries from a mail order catalog, calling in a fire at her apartment, and taking her clothing and leaving behind sexy lingerie. So Kitty leaves Winnemucca, stops in Boise, Idado, where she meets a family who help her change her name to Leigh Wiodonski, and then heads to Rusty Springs, Montana, where she hopes to live without being stalked. Appealing and quite single local sheriff Anthony Castellano lends Kitty his two room cabin but when she is attacked and the cabin totally stripped, it becomes obvious that someone is still after Kitty Klepaki.

"Rusty Springs" is a well-written story of a young woman, Kitty Klepaki, and her attempts to escape a stalker and meanwhile to settle down with someone she really loves. Kitty's character is highly believable and totally real as she joins in a pig chase, tells slightly off-color jokes, speaks her mind and works a gambling table quite well. Anthony Castellano and all other characters are also well-created and play their parts nicely as the story develops. The plot flows well towards the conclusion and the stalker's eventual capture and the suspense builds nicely although the story's end is a little abrupt. Still, "Rusty Springs" belongs on reading lists everywhere, sex scenes and all.

Dear Alice:

You captured the light-hearted and adventurous spirit of Kitty Klepacki who changes identity to elude a stalker in the Rusty Springs story. Good job. I think you enjoyed her more in Nevada than you did in Montana; maybe because the antics of the stalker may have felt more ominous in Nevada than it does in Montana.
Thank you for giving it four-stars. Such a rating makes it a fun read and that's how it was intended. The second of the series about the folks in the Rusty Springs Valley, coming soon with The Hired Hand, provides readers a more in depth character, study of a middle-aged cowboy with five wives and sundry girlfriends, a man who finally finds THE woman who can help him understand himself and be at peace.
Alice, you wrote a mighty-fine review. Catch up with Kitty (who is now Leigh) in The Hired Hand. She'll have a bit part.
