I liked the setting of Sad Mermaid by Macie Holloway. Most teenage girls will adore a story about magical mermaids and the possibility of falling in love with an enchanted king. The characters are really vibrant within this text and there is so much going on in this world you can't help but get swept away by it all, drawn into it and become forgetful of your actual world (the same way King Loch forgot about Medallia).
I also enjoyed the storyline of the king and queen fighting over power. I liked how they each had faults and how they acted badly toward each other. There was a very important lesson to be learned here and I appreciated the way those two characters played off each other, turning each other into ugly hideous monsters, fighting amongst themselves and causing so much destruction and chaos.
There was quite an abundance of exciting and off the wall characters that kept the story moving in the right direction. This story certainly isn't boring. There is so much going on that sometimes it is hard to keep it all straight, but that was part of the fun and charm of this tale. As I kept reading, I worked to keep the characters straight and hoped that all of the rotten ones got what they deserved in the end.
