Saving Emma by Maria Miller tells a story of a teenage partnership that leads to a lifelong commitment. Luke and Emma were pushed together as teenagers by bullies at the school they both attended and dared to attend the Prom together. That dance marked the start of what would become a lifelong commitment, but neither realised, when they said their marriage vows, that the words "until death do us part" might just come sooner than they thought. Luke starts a successful business demolishing buildings and Emma stays at home. A sore throat lingers and is finally diagnosed as cancer. After undergoing an operation, Emma starts a course of chemotherapy which seems to make her worse. Luke has to go out of town on business and, while he is away, he becomes convinced the doctors are not treating his wife properly. He stumbles across a medical doctor who claims to be able to treat Emma, all Luke has to do is get her to him. Arriving home he finds Emma is in hospital and frustration overcomes him, resulting in a physical attack on the doctor. Can Luke get Emma away from the hospital? Can the other doctor save her?

I thoroughly enjoyed Saving Emma by Maria Miller. It is a subject close to many people and has been well-written. The pain and anguish, tears and sorrow come across in such a real way that on more than one occasion I found myself wiping away a tear. The characters are easy to identify with and the story follows its own route naturally. I know there is a sequel to this and I can't wait to read it!
