David Elkins brings readers a varied collection of illustrations in his art book, Tamaren. These illustrations cover various themes and topics related to different aspects of individual and societal phenomena. Elkins touches on the prevalence of geometry in society through illustrations that show how individuals and groups interact in different shapes and mechanics. Additionally, the collection explores the senses, sense organs, navigation, course charting in the environment, and more. Some other themes are language and communication, soundscape ecology, and anthropology. You will also find illustrations of containers of potpourri rotating for the nostrils, representing the experience of smell and touch. Presentation of linguistic structures includes illustrations of 3D words with multiple directions of pronunciation, containers in the shape of letters to put potpourri in, plates inscribed with letters, etc.
Tamaren is a must-see collection for lovers of abstract art. David Elkins is always inspired by some of the most unique subject matter to create illustrations. And the illustrations in this collection are no different. These illustrations offer the viewer the place of an observer to look at the physical, chemical, linguistic, and geological patterns at play at the societal and mechanical levels. Elkins also uses his art to showcase different dimensions of space, how forms and shapes manipulate it to create physical objects with distinct properties. There's a section toward the end that takes a deep dive into clothing and accessories featuring illustrations ranging from grid var vests to headbands with rods and beads. All in all, Tamaren will be a special experience for an art aficionado. I found it very interesting, and you will too!
