Techno’s Tail of Pawsitivity by Beth Dokolasa is a sweet story about a black and white cat named Techno who is shy, unsure of himself, and filled with negative thoughts. This impacts his life in several ways, none of them good. Things change when a volunteer named Ellie notices him and pays him extra attention. Her positive attitude and gentle encouragement influence him for the better. Slowly, his life begins to change, and he even starts to have positive thoughts about himself and his future. While his story continues to unfold, the effects of Ellie’s influence for good are seen. The illustrations by Amy Glatiotis bring the story to life.
This is a delightful read that I won’t soon forget. Through Techno’s Tail of Pawsitivity, Beth Dokolasa describes feelings of inferiority that are relatable. Children and parents alike will identify with this sweet cat. The volunteer’s gentle and consistent encouragement and her effect on Techno remind readers of the importance of influencing others for good, the power of kind words, positive thoughts, and believing in yourself. Dokolasa’s take on the word positivity is adorable, and so are the puns she incorporates. The illustrations are sweet and fit the story perfectly. This heartwarming tale is one I can see children asking for again and again. It would even be appropriate for story time in daycares or schools. Any child who likes stories about animals and a message they can apply to their own lives will love Techno’s Tail of Pawsitivity. I highly recommend it.
