Do you like adventure stories featuring dragons and superheroes? If the answer's yes, grab a copy of A. Mendoza's The Dragon Kids. Lura and her best friend Alex were exploring the Leaf Fall Forest near her home when they unexpectedly found themselves transported to a magical world. To their surprise, they have turned into dragons, each with a unique power of their own. They realize the reason for their newfound abilities is the yellow scale necklace and the magical stones. As they find more stones, they offer them to other kids and form a little group called the Dragon Kids. After rescuing an orphan named Hestra, the Dragon Kids must now defeat the Evil Dragon King, who has been killing off the local flora and fauna.
An adventure tale full of magic, action, and a healthy dose of humor, The Dragon Kids will delight young and older readers alike. Author A. Mendoza has a vivid imagination, crafting a magical world that fills you with a sense of wonder and awe, so much so that you don't want to leave it. This is a story about friendship and found family, and it beautifully demonstrates how working together can help people overcome the toughest challenges. I loved the characterization of each member of the Dragon Kids. They have distinct personalities and witty back-and-forth, and it leads to some funny interactions and moments that are bound to get a chuckle or two out of you. This is the perfect adventure book for preteen readers. I really enjoyed it and you will too!
