The Gemstone Chronicles Book Three: The Emerald, by William L. Stuart, is set in Celahir, the elven world. Aidan and Maggie, their family, and the Light Elves are on a mission to find the third gemstone, the emerald. On their journey, they encounter pesky dwarves, trolls, and the notorious Dark Elves. To succeed, they need to defeat the beast put there by their evil foe, Naesse, before they can discover the final clue that will determine the whereabouts of the emerald. But first, Aidan and Maggie go on an epic quest to free their family after a cranky witch cast them into stone. Luckily, they find help against the protected enchantments in the form of a unicorn, a mermaid, and the magnificent owl feathers, as well as the mysterious Dylan.
This adventure was outstanding! Do not dare omit The Emerald by William L. Stuart from your reading bucket list. I was delighted by the unique and well-put-together plot using some well-known favorites such as a unicorn and a mermaid. The first twelve chapters were engrossing on their own. I loved the role of Lucy, the formidable ferret that turned out to be more than just your average pet as she helped ward off the evil antagonist, Naesse. The dialogue is filled with humor and the exchange between the main characters is credible. The description of the armor was brilliant and made me wish I had some of my own.
