After their daughter wakes up from a coma, the McAllisters decide that a change of scenery is needed. So, they pack up the car, along with their two kids, and head to Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Hoping to put the worst behind them, they didn’t realize that their nightmare would truly begin once they reached Bridge Manor. When their eldest starts suffering from horrific nightmares about a shadowy figure they pass it off as stress. Marc Layton’s The Haunting of Bridge Manor pays homage to a classic horror theme and is a definite in your to-be-read pile!

The plot, gore (there’s not much), and horror were beautifully executed! In most horror fiction, we see the entity target children, and the same happens in The Haunting of Bridge Manor. However, their story is somewhat different from others. The story is told from several characters’ points of view and is sectioned into three parts. This book literally has a beginning, middle, and climax which one can clearly see. I felt as if I was watching a horror mini-series while reading and all I can say is that Marc Layton is brilliant! The story and characters encompassed everything in horror fiction, from the introduction, back story, and even plot twists. However, there were a few questions that I hoped would be explained, like why the entity had this obsession with Rachel and her family. Is it because they’re the ones who got away? As well as the connection her brother had to the mysterious twins. Aside from this, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it!
