The Rise: A Prologue is the third book in the Ventures of Captain Xavior series by J.R. Leilies. All her life, Reine Xavior has been training to replace her father Zaul Xavior as Captain of Swan. Now that her initial training has finished, Zaul moves her to the next part: aboard the Swan. However, that was the beginning of a new chapter in her training. She goes undercover with Zaul within Federation colonies to learn the art of spying from the master. Before she knows it, something terrible happens, and she is exiled. Now, Reine has to not only prove herself as a worthy replacement for her father but also avoid being captured by the Federation and return home safely. More importantly, Reine has to survive this chaos without the help or protection of her father and get back to Valhalla in a single piece. The expectations are high, and the bar is raised. Can Reine do it?
The third and final novel in the Ventures of Captain Xavior, The Rise ends the story with a bang! Reine has grown so much, and her development is on point. While Zaul’s character is more jaded and complex, Reine is an open book. She wants to make her father proud and prove that she can be a worthy successor. The story puts Reine on the spot, makes her face new challenges, and gives her plenty of room to grow at the same time. The narrative style is something special in this particular novel. You can feel the excitement and the tension in the air around Reine. I enjoyed the dialogues very much. The pace is perfect, the twists are nerve-wracking, and the action is limitless. This is my favorite novel in the series by J.R. Leilies and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys high-octane, action-packed young adult science fiction.
