The North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series is the most prestigious draft horse event on the continent and forms the basic inspiration for a series of picture books written by the well-versed children’s book author, Shani T. Night, a skilled storyteller. With the former book in the series titled The Six Horse, The Six Horse is My Friend tells of how a little girl called Shani (no doubt this story is autobiographical!) prepares her favorite horse, the Six horse, for one particular family horse race, which she plans to win against the villain of the piece, “evil boy.”

Friskily illustrated with full-color pages by illustrator Reggie Howard, The Six Horse is My Friend by Shani T. Night is a picture book that is likely to encourage the celebration of all things equine. The simplicity of the language used and the large print are ideally suited to the target age group. The air of excitement and anticipation that prevails on Race Day is catchy! The little girl, Shani, is portrayed with such fun and enjoyment and her horse, Six horse, is shown to participate in the event with such vigor and enthusiasm that any young animal lover will thrill to the chase. Preschoolers will delight in the joyfulness of it all, with the motion of the horses racing against each other being beautifully captured by the talented Reggie Howard. A wonderful introduction to equine events!
