Recently divorced, jobless, and living in his sister’s house in Hollywood, California, thirty-year-old Robert Donegan was looking for any job to keep him afloat. When a friend refers him to a contact named Antonio, who is willing to pay him $3,000 to drive a removal van on a three-day round trip, Robert jumps at the offer. The job entails driving the truck from California to Chicago and back. A few hours into the journey, the truck is attacked by gunmen. After witnessing Antonio’s murder, Robert narrowly escapes the shootout in the truck. Soon, he learns that the truck was transporting drugs and a suitcase full of money. Robert ditches the truck and heads back home with the suitcase. However, he loses it along the way. Unknown to him, two mob families are after the money and already know where to find him. What will happen to Robert and his sister? Find out in The Suitcase by R. A. Van Vleet.
If you are looking for a neo-noir crime thriller laced with mystery, drama, suspense, and plot twists, The Suitcase by R. A. Van Vleet is a worthy pick. The author grabs readers' attention with a suspenseful introduction that sets the stage for an intricate tale about a murder investigation, a failed heist, and ruthless syndicate networks trying to fix their mistakes. The prose is gritty, whether it was the shooting, the bloody crime scenes, or the sexual abuse of victims of the mob. Some scenes left my heart pounding, and others left me terrified with the display of extreme callousness. The more I read the story, the more questions I had, and the more I turned the pages to get answers, especially for the murder investigation. The story warns against greed and emphasizes that everything done in the dark eventually comes to light.
