In The Vanishing Stone by Keisha Biddle, Nikoleta Soter grew up in an orphanage with twelve other girls. Some of them knew at least a little about their parents, but Nikki knew nothing about hers. One night, after running away from her mortal nemesis, Nikki found a necklace which transported her to Amarian where she met two weird looking people, Bosh and Day, and a dragon, Kibbie. Kibbie was actually raised by Nikki’s parents like she was their own, which makes the dragon some sort of sister to Nikki. Kibbie then informed Nikki that their parents are in jail because of the evil king and princess. So Nikki and her new friends devise a plan to set them free. With the help of Raphael, the castle’s groundskeeper, they will break into the castle and free Nikki’s parents. However before their plan could be completed, they were captured.
I’m glad The Vanishing Stone is part of a series, seeing as it ended with a cliffhanger. Everything also kind of happened very fast, all secrets were revealed immediately into the story so it wasn’t very mysterious. But the narration and flow of the story was smooth so that it was still a very nice read. Nikki is a strong and resilient character, being transported to a foreign place and still keeping her cool. There was little known about Bosh and Day, except how they look and they seem to be interesting characters so I’m looking forward to learning about them in the upcoming books. Keisha Biddle made a good solid start with this book so I have high hopes with the next ones. I’m excited about what will happen with Nikoleta, her friends, her parents, and the kingdoms.
