Tomris: October 1942 by A. Yavuz Oruc is a story many of us can relate to, where a young girl has a dream of being a fashion designer. The difference is her dream is taking place during the early years of the Turkish republic. There is a family struggling to survive and will survive in the end, and also a love story between two teachers who have met in a small village during intense ethnic conflicts. This is a book that is full of love, hate, honor, trust and betrayal.

I found Tomris: October 1942 by A. Yavuz Oruc to be a very interesting book. It took a few chapter for me to get into it and truly feel like I was connecting with the characters. However, once I did so, I was really able to sit back and enjoy it. It has a rich and tangible feeling about it - the detail is so great I could almost smell the aromas of the area I was in, and that is something I really enjoyed. The book is well written and has a good flow. Like I said, the first few chapters were a little hard to get into but did not take away from the overall feeling of a good book. I applaud the work that A. Yavuz Oruc has done with this book. I recommend it to a reader who does not mind spending time to get to know characters in order to enjoy the book itself. You will be well rewarded with this one.
