War Of The Animals: The Shut Face Of Thunder is a work of fiction in the animals, adventure, and drama subgenres, and is the opening novel of the series penned by author Jonathan DeCoteau. The work is suitable for the general adult reading audience. We find ourselves in a world where animals rise against humanity's environmental destruction. Failed attempts to weaponize animals lead to their heightened intelligence. Moon Shadow, an Arctic white wolf, allies with White Claw, a polar bear king, to form Animus Nor, the first animal republic, aiming for peace negotiations. However, Azaz, lord of the grizzly bears, sees humans as invaders and attacks settlements, sparking a global conflict between animals and humans, and among animals themselves, to determine the ultimate apex species.
Author Jonathan DeCoteau has crafted a riveting novel that transported me into a thought-provoking alternate reality with vibrant descriptive techniques and worldbuilding aplenty. I particularly enjoyed the exploration of animals rising up against human exploitation and environmental degradation, and the realism and serious treatment of the subject matter raises compelling questions about our relationship with the natural world. It’s incredible to see a work of fiction take on these themes and ground them in a very visceral format, and the blend of action and introspection kept me engaged. I also adored the characters, particularly Moon Shadow, and each member of the cast was a compelling embodiment of different emotional conflicts. The examination of power dynamics and environmental stewardship resonated deeply, serving as a poignant allegory for contemporary ecological issues. Overall, War Of The Animals: The Shut Face Of Thunder offered a captivating journey through a world where nature fights back, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
