In Girl on Fire, a psychological thriller by Danielle Bannister, Sarah is a runaway, a pyromaniac who sees fire as her savior. When she is picked up by a trucker called Al, she never expects to be offered a roof over her head and a job at his farm. When she meets his son, Kyle, she falls for him but won’t allow herself to be drawn in. She thought her nightmares were over but then the other son, Brad, comes home for a visit. Sarah is a captive once more, haunted by a monster. Can she escape her nightmares or will her life burn to the ground around her?
Girl on Fire by Danielle Bannister is a cleverly written thriller with a romantic thread running through it. The story is divided in two. The first part is written from Sarah’s point of view, and in the second part, Kyle picks up the narrative. This allows you to see things from both sides, giving you a more complete picture. All the characters in this story are well-rounded individuals, relatable and likable, even the bad ones! It does come with a warning that it contains scenes of abuse, which could be a trigger for some readers, so caution is advised. Both Sarah's and Kyle’s stories will draw you in and touch your heart. Don’t start reading until you have enough time as, once you start reading, you won’t want to put this book down. It is packed with action and it twists and turns its way to an ending you won't see coming. A thoroughly enjoyable story! I hope to read more from this author.
