Guilt-Free Mommy: Insights and Tools to Overcome Mommy Guilt is a work of non-fiction in the self-help, guidance, and parenting sub-genres, and was penned by author Dayna Reed. In this concise but highly informative work, the author takes her own personal experiences of motherhood and hits on pertinent experiences which make other mothers feel inadequate, selfish, or guilty in everyday life. She examines this phenomenon from a point of view of solidarity, common sense, and positive mental health, delivering important messages to help mothers at all stages to quiet those inner negativities. In addition to this, the work focuses on getting the most out of your bond with your child/children and enriching both of your lives through this.
Author Dayna Reed touches upon a topic on which I’m certain all parents need to have their eyes opened. The unique experience of motherhood and the stigma placed on women throughout society is something that needs to change with the times and other social change movements, and Reed certainly delivers a wonderfully uplifting volume to help that progression. The organization of the work makes it easy to digest the many positive lessons, and the narrative voice of the author is both highly professional and non-judgemental. It feels as though the work is being read to you by a wise friend, one whom you can trust to put the world to rights in a comforting and empowering way. Overall, I would highly recommend Guilt-Free Mommy: Insights and Tools to Overcome Mommy Guilt to anyone looking to explore this phenomenon, but most especially mothers who need help quieting their inner ‘Mean Girl’.
