The Adventures of Tamarita Rachel by Andrea Gardiner revolves around two sisters, Tamarita Rachel and Emily, and their parents. The story is set in Ecuador and, apart from the exciting adventures where Tamarita Rachel goes visiting Indians, discovering iguana eggs and many other things, the book also teaches readers about a new country. The book will appeal with its simplicity as it captures the soul and essence of the people of Ecuador and also of the place. The magical tales of Tamarita Rachel are woven in a way that children will really love and enjoy reading them. The book is also a revelation of the author's adventurous spirit and love for travel and discovering new things in life.

The simplicity of the plot and the background will really make you enjoy it. The day to day living and enjoying the simple pleasures and offerings of daily lives are highlighted as the book progresses. The black and white sketches are good and they give the story life and movement. It is a beautiful story book that can be used in classrooms and libraries for read aloud sessions. Each story that revolves around these two girls has its own charm and take readers on a different trip. The culture, people, lifestyle and essence of Ecuador is conveyed well to readers. My personal favorite chapter in the book is 'The Mystery Eggs.' It is exotic and very interesting. The book is educational, which makes it all the more fascinating for kids.
