DLM Johnson welcomes those willing into the world of her fantasy book, The Darkness of Placata Montis. In it, we follow Eliana, a strong-willed girl who has left behind everything she knows to defeat the thing known as The Darkness. She comes from a broken kingdom in another dimension. With her parents dead and a prince who has run off, it is her task to save her world from the dangers.
DLM Johnson lets her imagination run free in The Darkness of Placata Montis. It has a well-defined plot and a solid structure. By the end of this standalone novel, Johnson ties everything together. The pace is calm and constant. It does not feel boring, though: its rhythm is dynamic, and the story captivating. The book had me turning the pages. I could not put it aside. Not only does Johnson display outstanding writing skills and a capacity for world-building, but she also creates outstanding characters. Eliana, the female protagonist, provides a healthy role model for every girl. She is strong and confident but also has flaws so she does not set unreachable expectations. The main male character is what every man should be: someone who knows what boundaries and respect mean. This story, albeit a fantasy, tackles crucial issues and displays healthy relationships based on communication (and not only those of romance). To sum up, this book has everything and is perfect for lighting up everyday life.
