The List: First Book in the Wallis Jones series by Martha Carr is an entertaining political thriller about a family trapped between two political powers. Wallis Simpson, the main character in the story and a loving wife and mother, gets caught in between these two powers that are vying with each other to gain control over the people. She becomes a pawn in their manipulation and finds herself in the midst of their conspiracy. The game played out by the two political parties resembles a civil war in the midst of sophisticated and intricate plots and games.

The author has woven a thrilling political plot with a lot of action, twists and turns that will keep readers glued to it. The way the scenes unfold in front of the reader's eyes is done with expertise, and all the action that happens as the story progresses highlights the mystery, intrigue and suspense of the plot. The characterization of Wallis has been done extremely well, emphasizing her role as the wife of Norman and mother of Ned. And the way she reluctantly gets dragged into the political war has been done well. The conspiracies, manipulations and deceptions in the plot have been described effectively by the author and the final outcome is intensely gripping. Both the plot and the characters are believable and relatable to readers, even though the story has a political theme. This book sets the mood and pace for the next book.
