The people you spend the most time with may be influencing you more than you realize. This idea is explored in The Principle of The Five Chairs by Phil Graffoe. Using the concept of individuals sitting in metaphorical chairs, the guide helps readers understand the roles others play in our thoughts, habits, choices, and ultimately our futures. The book explains that people around us help shape our ambition, accountability, wisdom, outlook, and more. Throughout this reference, graphics help bring the ideas to life. Graffoe builds on them with practical examples and reflective questions that encourage readers to consider the relationships that most impact their lives. Who is sitting in your five chairs? And what role are they playing in your life?

For someone like me who enjoys psychology, The Principle of The Five Chairs by Phil Graffoe was very thought-provoking. As I read it, I kept picturing who would be sitting in each chair. That made the experience more personal for me. The graphics throughout were helpful. They weren't just there to decorate the pages. They gave me another way to think about the concepts. Graffoe's writing is straightforward, yet conversational. Ideas are the focus, not complicated language. When I was finished, I had several questions still on my mind, which, to me, is a sign of a worthwhile read. Eleanor Roosevelt is known for this quote: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Those words are a good reminder that while others influence us, we still can choose our own path. This is a good choice for readers looking for a book about psychology, personal development, or self-reflection.
