In Liz Eagle's murder mystery Don't Cry Over Spilt Wine, Lil Starling’s best friend, Nancy Warwick, invited Lil and her husband, Joe, to Warwick to accept recognition for solving a 51-year-old murder. Lil was informed that several prisoners, for whom she had prepared presentences for the court, would be filing appeals. Thomas Jenkins would be one of them; he had a violent past and Lil feared that he might be set free. Lil would do anything to keep Jenkins locked up and looked into his background to find anything that would keep him in prison. When Lil met up with her college friends, they recalled the two unsolved murders from their time as students. The past and present started to blend as Lil and Joe worked to keep Jenkins behind bars and solve the murder of the two students.
Don’t Cry Over Spilt Wine was much more than I expected. Liz Eagle took me on a roller coaster ride of suspense, action, mystery, and murder. I found it difficult to put the book down because of how captivating and interesting the story was. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages as fast as I could. With all the twists and turns, I never knew what would happen next and was guessing until the end. The characters were genuine and relatable, and I was drawn into their world. Lil was a law enforcement officer, and with the possibility of a violent criminal being released, she would go out of her way to keep her and her husband safe. I was surprised by the unexpected ending. I did not see it coming.
