Echoes of the Soul by Melyssa Tirase is a collection of original poetry that, together, paints a picture in verse on the human experience through varied stylistic devices. Among them, Bride of Shadows uses gothic imagery and cyclical motifs to depict innocence against harsh reality. The Power Within uses heroic metaphors and rhythmic quatrains to show us strength and motherhood within chronic pain. God is Everywhere locates divinity in everyday moments with accessible couplets and personification. On Christmas Eve juxtaposes nostalgic warmth and modern detachment via rhymed quatrains, repetition, and imagery urging empathy and connection. Through the Looking Veil speaks on layered identities and self-exploration using metaphor, free verse, and rhyme. The collection as a whole pulls together a unique mix of narrative and lyrical forms in a wide range of varied poetic structures and devices.
Echoes of the Soul by Melyssa Tirase is a beautifully written collection, bursting with really incredible pieces. It’s clear Tirase has poured her heart into this collection, and in her doing so, readers will find pieces of themselves or those they love within these pages, too. It is hard to select a favorite, but I love You Are Not Changing, You Are Choosing, which reminds us that transformation is an active, conscious choice. Tirase writes this poem in confident, declarative rhyme and strong metaphors of fire, stone, and tides to affirm self-determination. Another standout, The Count of Life, uses a steady, rhythmic flow and natural imagery such as sunsets and stars to quietly count emotional moments of tears, smiles, and lessons, pulling together nostalgia and acceptance. Overall, this is a lovely read where the honesty and careful crafting of each poem make the entire body a memorable and uplifting journey through shared human experiences. Very highly recommended.
